Welcome, Mr. Appolloni

Join me in welcoming Mr. Robert Appolloni to our Boutwell community! Mr. Appolloni is a retired Wilmington principal from the Shawsheen Elementary School who will be assisting me with the day-to-day operations of the Boutwell School for the remainder of this school year. Dr. Brand announced earlier this month that I will be assisting the Wildwood community during their relocation and transition period as they welcome a new principal at the end of the month. If you need to contact Mr. Appolloni, please call the main office at 978-694-6070 or email him at [email protected].

Health Update

Please continue to communicate with our school nurse, Laura Hilliard regarding any health questions or concerns. If any individual within your household tests positive for COVID please contact her before sending your child to school. She can be contacted directly at 978-694-6026 or emailed at [email protected].  We have seen an increase in illnesses (Norovirus, influenza, etc.) If your child is sick, please keep your child home. Please call the main office to report an absence and leave a message. Include your child’s name, room number, and the reason for the absence. Remember, your child needs to be symptom-free for 24 hours without fever-reducing medication before they return after an illness. Thank you!

Message from Mrs. Williams, School Adjustment Counselor

During my classroom visits last month, we learned about the Zones of Regulation. Each week we focused on one of the four different zones and what feelings we might experience in each zone: Green (calm, happy, focused); Red (angry, mad, frustrated); Yellow (silly, worried, nervous); Blue (sad or tired). We also identified coping strategies for each zone: Green (you are ready to learn and good to go); Red (need to stop and calm our bodies with deep breaths, counting to 10, asking for a break); Yellow (need to slow down with deep breaths, counting to 10, thinking of a happy place); Blue (need to rest our bodies by taking a break, spending time with someone you love or thinking of something that makes you happy). This month we will continue to explore the Zones of Regulation and ways to help ourselves and our friends. We encourage families to provide “zone checks” with students to help them identify their feelings at home.  If you have any questions or would like additional information, please reach out to our School Adjustment Counselor, Mrs. Williams, by email at [email protected] or phone at (978) 694-6070 ext. 7007.

Change of Season

The children go outside (weather permitting) during snack and recess. During this time of year, the temperature can vary from cold in the morning to warm in the afternoons. Please dress your child appropriately for the weather. Dressing in layers is best. Make sure to label their clothing so it doesn’t get lost.

Thank You:

I would like to thank all the students and staff who donated to the Diaper Drive and the Wish Project. Donations were delivered and greatly appreciated! Thank you!

April Community Project – Local Heroes Drive

This month we are collecting donations for our local Veterans. Some suggestions include toothpaste, deodorant, gum, hard candies, individually wrapped snacks, new socks, and baby wipes. Please refer to the notice that was sent home with your child. All donations will be sent to Lou Cimaglia, Director of Veterans’ Services in Wilmington for distribution.

Wilmington Educational Foundation Clothing Bin

If you have clothing, shoes, stuffed animals, etc. you would like to donate, you may place them in the WEF clothing and shoe bin located at the driveway of the school. Please make sure your donations are in bags. For every ton, the WEF will receive $100 that will support educational opportunities for all students.
